The GPS/GSM Based System is one of the most important systems, which integrate both GSM and GPS technologies. It is necessary due to the many of applications of both GSM and GPS systems and the wide usage of them by millions of people throughout the world. Vehicle theft is happening on parking and sometimes driving at insecure places. The security of vehicles is extremely essential for public vehicles. Vehicle tracking and locking system installed in the vehicle, to track the place and locking engine motor. The place of the vehicle is identified using Global Positioning system (GPS) and Global system mobile communication (GSM) is used to send or receive SMS by owner. These systems constantly watch a moving Vehicle and report the status on demand. When the theft identified, the responsible person sends SMS to the microcontroller, then microcontroller issue the control signals to stop the engine motor. Authorized person need to send the password to controller to restart the vehicle and open the door. This is more secured, reliable and low cost. GPS unit can determine other information like, speed, distance to destination, time and other. GPS receiver is used to detect the vehicle location and provide information (longitude & latitude) co-ordinates to responsible person through GSM technology.

Components used:
·         Microcontroller
·         GPS module
·         GSM Module
·         LCD
·         Battery
·         Vehicle (Complete structure with motors installed)
Applications:
·         Security (Vehicle theft detection & localizing)

·         SMS based vehicle lock & unlock system

Fingerprint based attendance/security system

Fingerprints are one of many forms of biometrics used to identify individuals and verify their identity. Fingerprint recognition or fingerprint authentication refers to the automated method of verifying a match between two human fingerprints.
An attendance recording system’s basic function is to keep a record of the time at which the employees of a particular firm report to work and leave from work. It is one of the most widely used event recording application in the industry today. A track of employee attendance is a must for payroll generation. The traditional method of maintaining an attendance register makes the job very tedious and prone to human errors.  The collection and processing of data of employee attendance which may include leaves, half working days, overtime etc. and using it to generate  the payroll manually consumes important man hours, which in turn could be used to increase productivity and in turn profitably of the firm. In case of an error, even more time will be used to detect and rectify it, if the process is manual. The whole process will be simplified to great extent if a system is available by means of which attendance data be stored, accessed, sorted, and processed and obtained in a form of a detailed report which may be used directly for payroll generation. Moreover it is also important that a false entry should not be made so for this one of the most secure methods for attendance is using a biometric sensor like a fingerprint reader.
An access control point, which can be a door, turnstile, parking gate, elevator, or other physical barrier where granting access can be electronically controlled. Typically the access point is a door. An electronic access control door can contain several elements. At its most basic there is a stand-alone electric lock. The lock is unlocked by an operator with a switch. To automate this, operator intervention is replaced by a reader. The reader could be a keypad where a code is entered, it could be a card reader, or it could be a biometric reader.

GSM based energy meter reading system and load control through SMS

The main objective of the project is to develop a GSM based energy meter reading system and load control through SMS. Electricity department sends employees to take meter reading every month, which is an expensive and time consuming job.

The proposed project provides a convenient and efficient method to avoid this problem. The electricity department and the user can get the readings of the energy meter of consumers via SMS. The loads can also be controlled by the user of this system via SMS using this project.

A microcontroller input is effectively interfaced to a digital energy meter that takes the reading from the energy meter and displays the same on an LCD. The reading of the energy meter is also sent to the control room by an SMS via SIM loaded GSM modem.

This GSM modem can also receive commands from the cell phone to control the owner’s electrical loads. It uses a standard digital energy meter that delivers output pulses to the microcontroller to perform counting for necessary action. On receiving command it can switch ON/OFF the loads.

Further this project can be interfaced with a non volatile memory IC like EEPROM along with a keypad so that the user the change the mobile number as per the requirement.
